Invitation for Public Engagement on Proposed New Zoning Bylaw

The present Zoning regulations have been, in large part, carried forward in the draft new Zoning Bylaw, and have been updated and improved for clarity of meaning and alignment with current legislation. However, some significant changes are proposed. Many of these are in response to requests received from Meadow Lake residents, while others are intended to correct deficiencies in the current bylaw.

The project to update and modernize the Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan began in 2023, with a community survey which yielded a wealth of commentary and ideas for positive changes. This community input was considered and included as much as possible in the drafting of the new documents.

These land use planning bylaws are the community’s rules about how buildings can be built and how public and private property can be used. These rules provide protection against foreseeable developments that could harm or threaten the quality of life, health or safety of residents and property owners in the immediate neighbourhood and the community as a whole. The guiding principle used in writing these bylaws is that they should be clear, understandable, practical, enforceable, and necessary. Land use bylaws are required by The Planning and Development Act, and must comply with a range of provincial legislation and regulations.
